Explore Speedway parks and trails

You might think of Speedway, Indiana as the hot spot for Indy racing action-- and you’re not wrong. But Speedway is also a haven for outdoor enthusiasts and offers a variety of parks, walking trails, and bicycling trails. Whether you need to get from point A to point B, break a sweat, or you’d just like to relax outside, Speedway, Indiana is the place to do it.

Speedway trails

Wilshaw Apartments in Speedway is less than a quarter of a mile from the trailhead for the Peoria Eastern Rail Trail heading west from Speedway. It’s also less than three miles from the White River Trail which runs roughly North-South through downtown Indianapolis.

Additionally, the B&O trail, which currently runs East-West from CR 500 in Tilden to Raceway Road in Clermont, recently received a $4.5 million Next Level Trail Grant from the state for extensions to connect to Indianapolis. The upshot is that Speedway will soon have more miles of trail connecting us to destinations both to the east and the west.

Parks and Playgrounds

If a laid-back afternoon in the park is more your style, Speedway is home to several parks offering shelters, playgrounds, charcoal grills, and plenty of space to relax outside and enjoy nature.

Leonard Park is ideal for sports enthusiasts, with walking paths, two baseball/softball diamonds, two full-size lighted tennis courts, a volleyball court, and a playground.

Meadowwood Park also has a walking path, two baseball/softball diamonds, a sand volleyball court, and a playground. The park also provides a variety of shelters equipped with gas grills that are available by reservation.

Speedway Trailhead Park provides a meetup point for bicycle and pedestrian trail users. This space is part of a joint effort by Keep Indianapolis Beautiful and the Indianapolis Arts Council to provide a community green space featuring artwork emblematic of the Speedway community.

Living in the Wilshaw Apartments in Speedway offers city access with a neighborhood feel. You can take advantage of the trendy, upscale shops and nightlife and still enjoy the colorful fall foliage in the many parks, playgrounds, and tree-lined paths.
